Color Field Paintings

I'm a huge fan of the color field painters and a lover of nature. I want to take two completely different philosophies and make them work together. So I take the abstract spontaneous backgrounds inspired by the Color Field painters and then work in realistic subject matter like a bird. Watching the flight of birds moving through the sky began many years ago. Hours were spent watching the clouds move and the birds cross overhead. Those skies overhead fueled a never ending love of color and movement. The colors evoke moods and feelings causing imaginations to flow.

The composition and color are really what I'm interested in. The backgrounds can become anything. I want the textures and paint to be spontaneous and flow in the compositions. The paintings are about knowing what to save and what to get rid of. How minimal they can it be, and how aggressive can you take it. And letting the paint do its own thing with control. These paintings are expressions or rather interpretations of spontaneous experiences in nature. As a viewer of the paintings I hope that you get lost in the calming beauty of the birds and the seductive nature of the "Color Fields."
